What Is a Laboratory Apparatus?

A successful, working laboratory is fully equipped with appropriate apparatus spanning all branches of chemistry. Equipment is used to measure, weigh, gather, observe, analyze, sterilize or heat data. Understanding proper uses for each piece of apparatus is essential. The equipment may include x ray machine, hematology analyzer and all kinds of clinic lab device.

      Safety Apparatus
Every laboratory should be equipped with an eye wash and safety shower. Should materials or chemicals enter the eye, the eye wash is used to rinse them. If hazardous or caustic materials come into contact with clothing, the safety shower is activated to rinse them as well.
      Measuring Apparatus
The most commonly recognized pieces of laboratory apparatus include measuring devices. Beakers, graduated cylinders, graduated pipettes, burettes and volumetric flasks measure liquids and volumes. pH meters measure solution acidity, thermometers measure temperature and balances measure material mass.
      Analysis Apparatus
Scientists frequently analyze very small, fine or delicate pieces of matter. During analysis, they utilize apparatus including test tubes, forceps, centrifuges, droppers, tongs and tweezers.
